Abdominal veins and IVC (50 minutes) - Here the sonographer investigates the Iliac veins, Inferior Vena Cava and Renal veins.
This Ultrasound study is to assess your abdominal veins for deep vein blood clots. You will need to fast for this examination for at least 6 hours prior to the scan. You will be lying down for the entire length of the procedure. The Sonographer will use a transducer and scan along your abdomen to assess these veins. The Sonographer, at different intervals of the scan, will ask you to hold your breath or cough. This allows us to assess the patency of the vein. The Sonographer will also assess if new veins have been created by the body.
