ABI and peripheral arterial studies (60 minutes) - This study is done to assess the bloodflow through the arteries of lower limbs.
For this study you will be lying down and the Sonographer will be assessing all of the arteries within the legs or arms depending on what the Doctor has requested. Before starting the scan, an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) will be taken. This is done by using a blood pressure cuff and CW Doppler machine. The Sonographer will assess both an artery in both arms and two arteries within both ankles and measurements are taken. After that has been completed, the Sonographer will assess all of the arteries in either the leg or the arm. This is done by using an ultrasound machine transducer and running it over the area of interest.
At the Sydney Skin and Vein Clinic we assess your entire leg to obtain a diagnosis for your clinical symptoms.
